Red and Aqua or teal is one of the colour combinations I find most interesting. I decided to play a little bit with puddle pours and house paints and see what happens. A little dip away from my most favorite technique, the flip cup.
Acrylic House Paints - yes, you can use them. Yes, they will work! However, because they're not made as a fine arts material there have been some questions or concerns about longevity. For me, I don't always need art to last 800 years +. If I like it that's enough for me. I find house paints are really neat to work with because they're generally thinner than regular acrylics but the colours are SO vibrant. They're highly pigmented and they really do make interesting pours. The vibrancy of this piece in person is outstanding. With regular acrylics the colours, when they dry on the canvas, tend to dull out a little bit until you put your gloss coat over it but that doesn't happen with house paints. Give them a try! I like to get the little sample containers at Home Depot!
For this piece I used my glue-all mix pouring medium, 100% silicone oil in all colours except white, water, acrylic house paint (except for the white which is Artists Loft), torch, on a 10x10" canvas.
