In this tutorial, I'll be taking you on an artistic adventure, using a cradled wood panel ( amzn.to/3rzKG3B) acrylic paint as my medium of choice. We all know that abstract painting is about letting go, expressing emotions, and allowing the colors to dance freely on the canvas. But sometimes, the canvas seems to have a different plan for us, leading us in directions we never imagined. Trust me, it happens to all of us now and then!
As I work on this piece, I can feel the excitement and anticipation building up. With each piece of dried acrylic paint peeled from my Tri-Art palette ( amzn.to/3rv7Nw5), I dive deeper into my creative zone, but somewhere along the way, the painting decides to take a detour. The colors might clash, the composition may seem off, and doubts start to creep in. But here's the first lesson: don't give up!
Abstract painting is all about embracing the unpredictable, and that includes moments when paintings go wrong. The beauty lies in the journey, not just the destination. So, instead of letting frustration take over, I take a step back and breathe. I remind myself that every so-called "mistake" is an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
As I continue to work on this piece, I'm reminded of the second lesson: embrace the unexpected. The initial vision I had might have shifted, but that doesn't mean it's a failure. In fact, it's an invitation to explore new possibilities and take the painting to places I never thought it could go. Abstract painting has taught me to be adaptable and to find beauty in the unanticipated.
